Robyn Michaels is a retired dog groomer and returned Peace Corps Volunteer. She didn't go to college until she was 30, took CLEP exams, got college credit, and then an assistantship. She has trained several dogs to performance titles and worked for hobby breeders helping them select dogs for the next generation. Since retiring, she still trains dogs and writes mostly short stories. She lives in Chicago with sighthounds and the same roommate for ove 20 years.

The Pleasure Seeker

Son of parents trafficked from India to Africa after independence, they live in Arusha, Tanzania, a small town. They are Sikh, but in Swahili Africa, where people are a mix of Bantu, Arabic, & Indian, it doesn't matter.

Dayal is fascinated by a broken piano at his primary school. When he starts hustling to help his brothers raise money for transport to school in Singapore, he is offered a piano & buys it.

He falls in love with Mara, who is Jewish and American, the granddaugher of the man who bought his father She is older, divorced, & tells him he's too young & must stay in school as long as he has a scholarship.

.In Europe,he is proselytized to, which irritatesd him. He's read the Bible, and the inconsistencies and cruelty baffle him.

To earn money, he works as a studio musician. He meets other students ,they jam, & suddenly they are rock stars. He is making money, but is it a career?

Dayl meets Sita, who lives in Dubai, They are both Sikh, and he reasons that his parents were strangers and have a good marriage,love will grow, with trust. Things don't go as planned. While the Pleasure Seekers become popular, the marriage ekes along. They have 2 children, and it seems to Dayal that Sita doesn't know she's Sikh.

He has stayed in touch with Mara & her sister, Shayla, and tries to see them when he travels to the USA..

When Dayal attainshis Ph. D., Sita tells his she wants to live in Dubai and have another child. He has to make a decison about living his truth.

There is religious and sexual content. This story takes place fromt he late 1980s to the early 2000s, and includes real music, African, and computer history.
